The Challenging Terrain
Unlike Bali mainland, Nusa Penida's infrastructure is still developing. Roads to popular spots like Kelingking Beach or Angel's Billabong can be narrow, potholed, and extremely steep.
Bike Choice Matters
Do not rent a small 110cc scooter for Penida if you have a passenger. We strongly recommend an NMAX or ADV 160 for the suspension travel, ground clearance, and braking power needed for the broken roads.
Time Management
Distances on Google Maps are deceptive on Penida. A 10km ride might take 45 minutes due to road conditions. Plan for fewer stops and leave plenty of daylight.
Fuel Up
Gas stations are scarce outside the main harbour area. Buy petrol from roadside stalls ("Pertamini") whenever you see your tank dip below half.
