Riding in Bali's Rainy Season: What You Need to Know

Expect Sudden Downpours

Rain in Bali often comes on fast and heavy, but usually passes quickly. If dark clouds loom, find shelter early. Warungs (local cafes) or Mini Marts are great places to wait it out.

The Poncho Rule

Always carry a rain poncho in your bike's seat storage. The "batman" style ponchos sold locally are convenient but can be dangerous if they flap in the wind. We recommend a proper two-piece rain suit if you plan on long rides.

Slippery Surfaces

Be extremely cautious of:

  • Painted lines: Road markings become ice-like when wet.
  • Gravel/Sand: Rain washes debris onto the road edges.
  • Manhole covers: Metal surfaces lose all traction.

Slow down, brake gently, and avoid sudden turns.
